Immerse yourself in the vibrant heart of Dominican life beyond the tourist hotspots with this unforgettable day trip. The adventure begins with a visit to the sacred Altagracia Basilica in Higuey, a renowned pilgrimage site famous for its miraculous image of Our Lady. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive through charming rural villages, capturing the essence of everyday Dominican life. As you travel, you'll make stops at local producers, including a coconut oil factory, before heading to a sugarcane plantation where you can enjoy a rum tasting session and witness a skilled artisan rolling cigars by hand. The sights, sounds, and stories of these visits will offer a rich cultural experience of the island’s heritage.

The highlight of the day, however, is lunch with a local Dominican family. In the warmth of their home, you'll be treated to a feast of traditional dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. As your guide Ramon explains, Dominican cuisine is a fusion of Taino, Spanish, African, and even Middle Eastern influences, which makes each dish unique and full of flavor. You'll have the opportunity to taste and experience a variety of authentic foods, while learning about the cultural significance of each dish. Beyond the meal, you’ll also get to tour the family’s farm and coffee plantation, tasting fresh cocoa and fruit straight from the source.

To cap off this immersive cultural experience, you’ll head to Macao beach for some much-needed relaxation. Feel the soft sand between your toes, take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters, or enjoy water sports while sipping a Cuba libre. This day offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation, making it an ideal way to discover the true essence of the Dominican Republic.

I had an absolutely amazing time on my excursion with Runners Adventures! Monkeyland was unforgettable getting up close with the monkeys was such a fun and unique experience. I also really enjoyed the presentation about chocolate; it was interesting, informative, and delicious! We even got to sample fresh Dominican coffee and some mamajuana, which were both incredible. I loved that we had the chance to purchase some at the end so I could bring a taste of the Dominican Republic home with me. Overall, the tour was well-organized, the guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole day was full of great experiences. Highly recommend Runners Adventures!

We did the zipline. It was fun, went very smoothly, even with several newbies to zipline. The staff was helpful and kind to those newbies, and fun, but professional with the rest of us. The only reason for not giving a 5 star review, is we had to sit in on a sales talk about coffee, chocolate, and alcohol, at the end. It wasn't pressure sales, but we didn't have a choice, and were ready to go back to our hotel.

The organization of the tour was excellent from start to finish. We started by watching how cacao and coffee are traditionally made, which was both educational and enjoyable. After that, we visited Monkeyland—and it was a truly unforgettable experience! Spending time with the monkeys was a highlight of the trip. The photo session with them lasted around 45 minutes to an hour, and it was incredibly fun. The monkeys were friendly, curious, which made the whole experience even more special. Everything was perfectly organized, and the staff made sure we felt safe and comfortable throughout the tour. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Punta Cana!

The town tour was amazing. They were early to my resort. Willy was a great tour guide! Speaking multiple languages. He was very friendly and funny! The waterfall and dinner were amazing! Thank you again. I also did the monkey excursion which was also a lot of fun. Mama G was very helpful and kind. The monkeys were a lot of fun even though you only get to see them for about 30 minutes. They jump all over you and its great.

We did a the ATV/Monkey tour with Adventure Runner. Nacho was our guide during the drive and Bryan our driver. Nacho did an amazing job keeping it fun and entertaining. The monkey tour was so much fun and we had about 30mins with the monkeys. They were everywhere but it was exciting. The food provided was very good, the best food we had in DR and the view was amazing. It rained during our ATV tour but we knew going in this maybe a possibility and the details were upfront that it would not be cancelled if this happened. It was cold during the rain, we made the best of it and then the sun came out for the 2nd half of the ride so it ended up being a great experience. We did not swim in the river due to the heavy rain the water was high, the cigar tour my family enjoyed and we all enjoyed the chocolate info. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend.
